The aim of this study was specifically concerned to identify the role of parents and the prevalence of childhood obesity. This study was using quantitative design focus groups with the parents of primary school children. This study was conducted in Section 7 Primary School, Shah Alam, Selangor. The sample was selected from District Education of Petaling Perdana. 320 respondents were selected for this study by using stratified sampling and convenience sampling. The self-administered questionnaires were handed out to all 320 parents participated in this study. The findings from this study were discussed on the role of parents to explore their understandings that may affect towards childhood obesity perceived parental self-efficacy, parental food selection preferences, subjective norms of parents and prevalence of obesity. Parents are the main influences to shape children’s decision in healthy eating, food intake and dietary patterns from early childhood development. The findings of this study found that parents in this study were understood their role and however, they did not play effective role within the context providing effective strategies for healthy eating, physical activity and dietary patterns of their children. Thus, the contribution of this study will required the specific childhood obesity prevention from the parents to provide healthy eating strategies as they are playing an active role in designing effective strategies about making healthy food intake.
