A STUDY ON THE GENERATIONAL DIFFERENCES CONFLICTS IN INFLUENCING THE JOB PERFORMANCE AT THE WORKPLACE


The purpose of this research study is to identify the relationship between generational differences and job performance at the workplace. The generational differences involved three difference generation of Baby Boomers (birth between the year 1945-1964), Generation X (birth between the year 1965-1981) and lastly is Generation Y (birth between the year 1982-2000). The generational differences include the personality, communication styles and work styles & Motivation. The study adopted the casual study and used a set of questionnaires as the operational framework for data gathering. Data were collected by cluster sampling technique and be concentrated in the census sampling with two hundred and seventy eight employees from Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA). The correlation analysis of data showed that Personality (r=0.757), Communication Style (r= 0.481) and Work Style & Motivation (r=0.538) were interrelated of Job Performance at the workplace.
For conclusions, the study has achieved the objectives which are to identify whether the personality of the generational differences affect the job performance at the workplace, to identify whether the communication styles of the generational differences affect the job performance at the workplace, to identify whether the work style & Motivation of the generational differences affect the job performance at the workplace and lastly to identify which of the generational differences conflict whether personality, leadership, communication style or work style & Motivation are the most influential towards the job performance at the workplace. It was found that the most influential generational differences conflict towards the job performance at the work place is the personality. This is because personality have more significant value compare to the communication style and Work Style & Motivation towards the job performance at the workplace.
