THE EXTENT OF NULLYING BEHAVIOUR IN SCHOOLS: A STUDY ON YOUTH PERCEPTIONS.


This study was conducted to identify and analyze the extent of bullying behavior among youth by using 180 usable questionnaires gathered from students in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 16 (SMK Seksyen) were population size 302. This study is guideline by the Dan Olweus based on the researched had been done in American regarding the impact and prevention of bullying behavior among youth. Besides that, this study carry the most factor that are contribute to the extent of bullying behavior consists of parenting styles, relationship between parents and relationship between peers clarified as main objective. The method used of this study is convenience sampling technique to draw representative data by choosing the target audience. In addition, for the sample size of this study determine by the Krejcie and Morgan (1970), whereby the total population size is N=1,448, thus Sample size is S=302. Regarding the data findings by objectives, the data showed that authoritarian parenting styles and dimension of self-confident toward peer group will have high tendency have being bullied and be bullies. The family structure and regulations as carried out by authoritarian parents highly correlate with the bullying behavior compare with the authoritative parental practice and permissive styles. Moreover, for the dimension of the self-confident actually are based on the how the youth face and dealing with peer group, are they have higher level of confident to be aggressive and courage. In addition, for the moderating effect (self-efficacy), based on the constant value all of variable are high significant and moderately significant. However, for interaction effect with it shows that self-efficacy is not influence the independent variables toward the extent of bullying behavior. Generally, youth who are physically looking small, naive, and low of appearance make them being victims, passive person also easy to make fun by other peers as well. To sum up, in this study identified that, the variables which are authoritarian parenting style and dimension of self-confident actually give positive relationship towards the extent of bullying behaviour in schools among youth.
