Proper breastfeeding practices are effective ways for reducing childhood morbidity and mortality. While many mothers understand the importance of breastfeeding, others are less knowledgeable on the benefits of breastfeeding and to continue with the practice. Therefore, the aim is to analyse the factors that positively influence continuity of breastfeeding. Ethnicity also becomes the moderating variables towards the continuity of breastfeeding. The study focuses on the women teachers at SMK Dato Onn Batu Pahat Johor. A set of questionnaire which was designed to elicit information on factors that positively influenced continuity of breastfeeding has been distributed to the sample of the study whereby it comprised of 64 women teachers. This research is a quantitative method and data has been analysed by using SPSS. The finding revealed that all three factors which are family support, employer support and breastfeeding knowledge has positive correlation relationship towards the continuity of breastfeeding. Furthermore, ethnicity as a mediating variable also has significant differences among the three races towards the continuity of breastfeeding. As a conclusion, education of mothers, families, especially fathers, and health care professionals regarding the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as how to overcome barriers, would have a positive impact on the number of mothers choosing and continuing to breastfeed. Further study is required to assess the impact of a strong, focused, educational program on improving breastfeeding rates.
