This
study focuses on the involvement of household in recycling activities by using
the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The purpose of this study is to examine
the relationship between key components of TPB (attitude, subjective norms and
perceived behavioral control) and the involvement of household in recycling
activities. The study also examines whether demographic information, gender
have influence towards the relationship between the involvement of household in
recycling activities and key components of TPB. The key components of TPB are
the possible factors that will influence the recycling behavior of the
household. This study used stratified random sampling technique in distributing
the questionnaire. From approximately 10985 residents in selected residential
area in Shah Alam, the sample size for this study was selected which is 370
respondents. Based on the Descriptive Analysis emphasized on mean and standard
deviation, it exhibited that the level of the involvement of household in
recycling activities in Shah Alam, was at moderate level. The findings of this
study indicated that only two factors which are subjective norms and perceived
behavioral control showed significant relationship towards the involvement of
household in recycling activities where (p<0.05). The perceived behavioral
control was the main factor that influenced the involvement of household in
recycling activities (β=0.401, t=7.141, P<0.01). Meanwhile, attitude showed
that there is no relationship with the involvement of household in recycling
activities. Finally, it is recommended to the local authorities to provide more
recycling center, enforce the new approach in order to influence household to
recycle and increase knowledge on important to recycle through education. Thus,
it is expected that this effort can assist to increase the recycling rate in
future.
