THE KEY SUCCESS FACTORS OF BUMIPUTERA ENTREPRENUERS IN SMEs


Every country is depending on the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) as it play a significance contribution to boost the economy of a country. The evidence can be seen in the increasing number of SMEs that has been reached almost 99.2% of the total business establishment in Malaysia with more than 548,267 SMEs were registered in 2010. However, despite all these contributions, SMEs still facing common problems in order for this entity to survive and being a competitive advantage in the globalized world. SMEs still not reach the full potential performance and identified for having a problem in sustaining.  Many studies have been done on SMEs to indicate the growth and key success factors that contribute to venture the growth of SMEs. However, only 10% of these start up survived beyond the 10 year mark. Therefore, the study also aims to identify the key success factors of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in SMEs in term of success to finance, managerial competency, organizational development and technological factor that gives impacts to the growth of competitiveness of SMEs. This study also aims to discover government aid and working experience as moderating variables. Researcher is using quantitative methods and the research is done around Shah Alam area. Respondents were Bumiputera and they are the CEO or Managing Directors of their companies. Purposive sampling is used in this study because it is suitable with the criteria needed in choosing the respondents. Questionnaires were used to get feedback from respondents. The result indicates that access to finance, managerial competency, organizational development and technological factor does not influence the key success factor of Bumiputera entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, government aids are not moderated with access to finance,managerial competency, organizational development and technological factor with the key success factors of Bumiputera entrepreneurs. However, working experience had moderated the relationship between managerial competencies, but not moderated with  the other variables. it is hoped that this study can contribute to researchers, entrepreneurs as well as governmental for the enhancement of Bumiputera SMEs in the future.
