Malaysia is working towards achieving Vision 2020, a country with high income and a developed nation. One of the efforts is by ensuring a sustainable economic development through good governance practice among corporations. Good corporate governance plays important role in enhancing the performance of the companies and increase the accessibility of outside capital to the company. The issues of corporate governance are pressuring the policy makers and government to implement new policy. In Malaysia, several cases of corporate failure such as Renong, Perwaja Steel, and Malaysia Airlines are due to weak corporate governance practices. This study focused on the company secretary roles in enhancing the good corporate governance quality among public listed companies in Malaysia. In Malaysia the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance (MCCG) 2012 has made a recommendation for all companies to adopt the best practices in relation to corporate governance. Thus, all companies are encouraged to adopt the highest standard of corporate governance recommended by the code. However, it is mandatory for all listed companies to adopt the recommendations made in MCCG as Bursa Malaysia has made it mandatory for all listed to comply with the MCCG recommendations in relation to corporate governance. This research seek to examine the level of good corporate governance quality practices in public listed company in Malaysia, to explore the relationship between the role of company secretary and good corporate governance quality and to identify the main role of company secretary that contribute toward enhancing good corporate governance quality. The roles of company secretary are divided into three main roles namely communication, advisory and compliance. This research used a cross sectional design and collected data through a questionnaire. A five Likert scale is used to measure the level of agreement or disagreement on each variable involved in the research. For data analysis, the mean and multiple regressions were used to analyze the data. The findings of the study indicated that the good corporate governance quality of public listed company is to a large extent is good. Further, the result showed that compliance and advisory roles are the main important roles of company secretaries in contributing to good corporate governance. This mean company secretaries also play a key role in enhancing the corporate governance quality.
