The study is to examines and identify the factors that influence food security in Pendang district,
Kedah. Reviews of the literature show that there are few factors that influenced the food security
and safety. Studies done by other researchers were used as guidelines to determine what factors
that can be tested in this study, and the factors are regarding on the element of food security under
the Global Food Security Index which are affordability, availability and quality & safety. A
questionnaire survey was distributed to 398 respondents to the Pendang district, Kedah which
consist of eight different mukim such as Mukim Tobiar, Mukim Padang Pusing, Mukim Guar
Kepayang, Mukim Padang Peliang, Mukim Rambai, Mukim Bukit Raya, Mukim Padang Kerbau
and Mukim Ayer Putih. Data analysis shows that significant relationship exists between three
factors towards food security in Pendang district, Kedah. Affordability emerged as the most
influential factor that lead to the food security in Pendang district, Kedah
