Smuggling is a widespread issue because of various economic reasons. Malaysia strategic geographical location, in the center of the South East Asian region made the country an attractive destination for smuggling. Smuggling is an offence under the law because it threatens not only the public safety but also the national security and justifies for stern consideration and actions. This paper will draw on the role of Royal Malaysian Customs Department in mitigating smuggling activities in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan. The study established that a positive relationship exists between the role of Royal Malaysian Customs Department in mitigating smuggling of the study area. The main conclusion of this paper is that customs administrations are effective in mitigating smuggling issue
