This study will discuss about Non- Interference Principle in ASEAN region. Non-Interference Principle had firstly been announce during ASEAN Bangkok Declaration of 1967 , which the basis of the document position that the province want to be unrestricted from external interference in its domestic affairs,( Ramachandran,2000:1) as cited by Fuad and Zaheruddin, (n.d.). The principle of Non-Interference is the sacrosanct cornerstone of Intra- ASEAN relationship, Drummond (n.d.).
In the recent year after the affirmation Non-Interference Policy as one of the vital principle in ASEAN Charter, it can be seen that the ASEAN failed to provide the testimonial of the relevancy of ASEAN in upholding the Non-Interference principle. This principle starts to become irrelevant since the ASEAN itself is unable to protect the right and security of the civilian. Drummond stated, it was a lot of crisis that occurred in our region recently, but ASEAN failed to overwhelm this crisis due to the Principle of Non-Interference. The Non- Interference Principle is adopted due to ASEAN severe adherence towards the institutional culture of regional security that purpose to evade confrontation while conserving control of skirmish among the region, (n.d).
The study that had been conducted had identified three factors that lead to the irrelevancy of Non-Interference Principle in ASEAN which are Impracticality, Transnational Crisis and Interpretation. By knowing the factor that contributes, hopefully the irrelevancy of non-interference was able to overcome. It is hope the study can contribute towards the improvement of this principle in ASEAN region.
