This research has chosen the topic related to
Terrorism and focusing on the threat of Islamic State (IS) group. The theme of
the study is the threat
of Islamic State (IS) militants in Malaysia: An Exploratory Study. The
major problem in this study is the Malaysian involvement in IS militant group
is at worrying level, whereby 73 persons have been detected fighting in Syria
and 12 of them are women. As at Mei 2016, 46 Malaysians still fighting in
Syria, 19 Malaysians have been found dead while fighting with IS in Syria. At
the same time, they are eight returnees from Syria and currently detained
inside special detention camp. The emergence of IS group in Malaysia is not the
first experience of this country to handle the act of terrorism. According to
Badrah Yussof (2013), Malaysia is not secluded from the dangers posed by
terrorists and the country could not be administered out the possibility of
“who and who” could be terrorist. The study aims to identify the reasons that
contribute to the participation of a vast number of Malaysian in IS, to
discover the structures, strategies, tactics and connections of IS in Malaysia
and to examine the threats towards Malaysia after the jihadist return from war
in Syria and Iraq. The study adopts the qualitative research methodology and
practically using Envivo version 11 to analyze the data. The researcher sought
answers for the three-research question to verify the biggest problem. The
research question is the reason that that contribute to the participation of a
vast number of Malaysian in IS, the structures, strategies, tactics and
connections of IS in Malaysia, the threats towards Malaysia after the jihadist
return from war in Syria and Iraq. The study can also improve by using mixed
methods to get the most in-depth result of the study. The future researchers
can use different techniques that making the findings more refined. By having
this study, it hopes that the threat from IS reduced as the immediate
implications of the study.
