THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN ASSIMILATION AND JOB COMMITMENT: A STUDY AMONG FOREIGN WORKERS IN KLANG VALLEY


Shortage of manpower has forced Malaysia government to approve more foreign workers to fill the employment in many sector including construction, agriculture, manufacturing, services and maid. Up to year 2015, the number of legal foreign workers are more than 2 million and extremely raised the outputs in Malaysia. However, as what happened in Malaysia nowadays, there are many negative cases that related to the foreign workers including exploitation, accidental, crime cases and others. Assimilation is a vital key for the foreign workers to have a life stability in new environment. Therefore, the research aims are to study on the association between dimensions of assimilation which are language, on-the-job training, values and job satisfaction with the job commitment among the foreign workers in order to give the better ideas on the assimilation process and the job commitment in the workplace. It specifically studies on the foreign workers in three private organizations in Klang Valley area through distribution of 278 questionnaires. The results of the study showed there was a moderate level of commitment that shows by the foreign workers while working. Among the foreign workers, values and job satisfaction are the most important keys of assimilation process that able to influence the job commitment in workplace. It is hope that this study can contribute to the improvement of foreign workers’ assimilation through education given by employer at the early stage of foreign workers arrival until employment stage. Therefore, all the initiatives would help the foreign workers to increase the job commitment at workplace.
