A STUDY ON THE RELATIONSHIP OF WORK STRESS AND JOB PERFORMANCE AMONG RELIGIOUS SCHOOL TEACHERS IN MELACCA


The purpose of this study was to identify the level of stress and the factors that influenced to the stress among religious school teachers in Malacca. Eighty seven religious school teachers from three religious school in Malacca have been chosen as the respondents for this study. The aspects that to be identified were workload, role conflict and relationship at work. The instrument of this study is questionnaire form. The sampling techniques that being used in this study is purposive and stratified sampling. All the data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) for Windows. In measuring the first objective, which is the level of stress, descriptive statistic was used. The mean and frequency from descriptive statistic explain the level of stress among the religious school teachers in Malacca. The inference statistic that is Pearson Correlation is used to test the hypothesis. Results showed that the level of stress among religious school teachers in Malacca were in moderate level. The result also showed that there is significant relation between role conflict and relationship at work with the job performance. Furthermore, there is no moderating effect of gender on the relationship between work stress and job performance. The employee as individual as well should know how to manage the stress efficiently and effectively so that it will not affect the work performance and health.
