IMPACT OF PHYSICAL WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT ON EMPLOYEE'S MOTIVATION: A CASE STUDY OF MUNICIPAL COUNCIL (PERAK)


In this modern era, many employees believed that internal workplace environment such as reward, recognition, and relationships between other colleagues are not sufficient enough to motivate the employees to perform their assigned tasks. Most of the public sectors neglect the effect of physical workplace environment to the employee‟s motivation as they believed this element cannot help the organization to improve the motivation among employees. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between three factors of physical workplace environment which are space arrangement, indoor environment and technological alignment with the employee‟s motivation in Municipal Council. In this study, the unit analysis is among employees in three Muncipal Council which are Manjung, Teluk Intan and Kuala Kngsar. Municipal Council in Perak was ranked as top number 2 of local authority that received most complaints from the public. These complaints had a correlation with the employee‟s motivation where the complaints can be increase when there were lacks of employee‟s motivation. Pearson‟s Correlation was used to identify the research questions and objectives. Therefore, the findings show that, there is significant relationship between physical workplace environment and employee‟s motivation.
