The plight of Rohingya due to the persecution by the Burmese military is becoming a growing concern. The problem of Rohingya in Myanmar cannot be solved simply by ignoring the reasons behind the atrocities committed by the Burmese military. There is an urgent need for better understanding of the issue in order to stop the on going human rights violations. Thus, a research study is carried out to understand the reasons for the military crackdown in Myanmar as well as the impacts of the Burmese military’s brutality towards the Rohingya. This research aims to identify the reasons behind the military’s brutality towards the Rohingya’s Muslim population. Besides, this research also aims to identify the impacts of the Burmese military’s brutality on the Rohingya. This research is based on content analysis where the researcher use primary and secondary source data to answer the research questions. Besides, the researcher conduct one informal interview with an expert to support his findings. The research suggested that historical precedence and religious nationalism and the 1982 Citizenship Law as the reasons behind the atrocities. Besides, this research also suggested the role played by the attack on the police and military posts as another important reason for the military brutality. The results of this study also suggested that military atrocities are linked to health, social and security of the Rohingya. It is hope that this study can contribute to the end of the sufferings of the Rohingya.
