The lack of awareness on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Malaysian Public Listed Companies (PLCs) and the pressure by the shareholder towards CSR are becoming growing concern. The dilemma of some companies which are focussed solely on the shareholder profit maximization lead to the failure of enhancement on the business activities and performance in a long run. There is an urgency to identify, on the shareholder’s involvements for the purpose to evaluate the pressure put by the shareholders in order to level up the performance of CSR with respect to needs of the society and environment as whole. Thus, the companies have to align all interests for the strategic positioning to be occurred. This research aims to study the level of Shareholder’s involvements and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Malaysian Public Listed Companies (PLCs). It specifically studies the companies’ CSR performance which are listed in the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia. This is due to the fact that, most of the companies which are listed in the Main Market are companies that have more than RM 500 million of market capitalisation. Hence, the companies have to practice to the highest level of corporate governance which includes the CSR. This research is based on data obtained from survey questionnaire on the company’s secretary department of the companies in the Main Market that polled the insights of how well the performance of CSR in each company. The data was analysed to evaluate and determine the level of CSR practices and the shareholder’s involvement pertaining to the pressure towards the companies. The research suggested that the companies have to equip with the concept and practicality of CSR in order to enhance the awareness and perception as well as educate the shareholders the importance of CSR to the nation. It is hope that this study can contribute to the improvement of CSR performance towards the companies in Malaysia.
