Women signify for about half of total population in Malaysia. The Department of Statistics has revealed that the estimates total of female population in 2014 to 2016 reach 15.3 million. Women’s role in economic contribution has become the main indicator of the modernization economy of the country. For the past years, Malaysia had shown the significant progress on the growth of women’s participation in the workforce. Even if there is increasing numbers of women that participate in all economic sectors over years but the participation rate is remain low. Despite of policy and many action plans designed to increase women participation in workforce, the result achieved is not satisfactory. Malaysia faced difficulties in attracting and retaining women as means to secure the economic growth. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine and provide better insights on the factors influencing women’s participation in workforce. This quantitative study was conducted involving 295 Malaysian women who worked at public sector in the area of Federal Territory of Putrajaya and hold the top management position. There are three factors were identified that influencing women’s participation in workforce. These factors can be categorized as education attainment, workplace flexibility and family involvement. Besides, workplace flexibility appears as most influential factor affecting women’s participation in workforce. Based on the findings of this study, it is highly hoped to contribute and provide benefited to the authorities in making policies and programmes to encourage more women to participate in workforce as well as focusing to retain them from leave the workforce.
