Women involvement in the labour force has become one of the most tremendous revolution since last centuries. Women have achieved progression with the increases of female labour force rate in various sectors including medical sector. However, the participation of women in higher level in medical sector is still low. Medical sector continuous to systematically disadvantage women doctors to be specialist and consultant and causing many to leave the public hospitals settings. The structure of male and female specialist doctors are unbalance. Female doctors are facing the same hurdles as other women in having career progression. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the most impediment factor towards female doctors’ career progression in public hospitals. Social Cognitive Career Theory is used in this study as the base of the discussion to see the women career progression elements. Moreover, this study applied quantitative method and the data obtained from the survey questionnaire involving 300 female doctors in public university hospitals in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. The result of the data analysis revealed that working condition is the most impediment factor of career progressiong among female doctors in public hospitals. The result of this study have suggested that a holistic strategic approach is needed to encourage more female doctors to be specialist and retain in the public hospitals. It is hope that this study can contribute to increase the number of specialist doctors in public hospitals.
