The aims of this study is to investigate the human behavior of descriptive norms, personal
norms and cognition of consequences towards understanding household waste separation
among the Malaysian public. This research used a quantitative methods and convenience
sampling involving 300 of household in Malaysia through questionnaire. This research
indicates that understanding household waste separation among the Malaysian public is
influenced by descriptive norms, personals norms as well as cognition of consequences.
Separation intention among our public were found to have direct influence on behavior.
The result of this study shows that descriptive norms and cognition of consequences have
an important relationship with the intention to separate. Therefore, the government as
well as non-governmental organisation (NGO) should ensure that our Malaysian public
must have strong awareness and better management of the environment in their life. This
finding also provide intuition that can help our municipalities to promote awareness
among the Malaysian public.
