For recent years, gender inequality has become most discuss topic in Malaysia
especially when the government announcing the proposition of Gender Equality Act.
However, it’s been almost past 12 years since the announcement had been made there
is only a small progress on it, creating a tension and anxious among society. The issue
of imbalance number of representations between men and women seems to be unable
pressure the government to take action regarding to the issue arise. Gender Inequality
Index (GII) by United Nations recorded that in Malaysia, the percentage of female
labour force participation rate are only 50.8% as compared to male that scored 77.3%
of labour participation. Although the female population is higher than the male, there is
still a denial for women’s acceptance in the working field especially the field that are
dominated by male. There are a lot of record of women that graduated in school that
involving in male dominated field that shifted their pathway and sacrificing their
ambition because of the unwelcome judgement and discrimination. The roles of women
are now revolving and no longer restricted to as a daughter, wives and mother but also
as a significant contributor towards the country development. Therefore, the
government and society should value women presence in this field of employment or
forever remains in denial with the quality that they could bring. A total of 240
respondents had participated in this study which resulted that the four factors, which are
glass ceiling, stereotyping, level of skills and level of education has a relationship with
the women’s job participation in male dominated field.
