The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the transformational style of
leadership on the engagement of employees at Selangor State Treasury Department.
Respondents to this study included employees in seven (7) separate units of the Selangor
State Treasury Department. Nevertheless, for the purpose of this analysis, only employees
whose Grade is 36 and below were chosen by the researcher. The total number of
employees in the departments or divisions is 220, but for the purpose of this study, the
researcher had chosen only Grade 36 employees and below, with 180 employees as the
target category. Following the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size rule for this 180
population, 123 employees are eligible for the sample size for this analysis. This research
is a cross-section design that has implemented a quantitative approach based on the
primary data obtained from the questionnaire provided to employees. The variables used
in this analysis were calculated in Likert scales ranging from 1 (Strongly Disagree), 2
(Disagree), 3 (Uncertain), 4 (Agree) and 5 (Strongly Accepted) and divided into three (3)
different sections. The primary data had been collected through a google form instead of
physical questionnaire due to Covid-19 pandemic and Restriction Movement Order
(RMO). The data obtained was analyzed using the Social Sciences Statistical Package
(SPPS). The outcome of the study indicates that the transformational leadership style has
a positive impact on the commitment of the employees and the most influential dimension
for transformational leadership style in the context of this study is the inspirational
motivation.
