Finding a successor is usually a problem when it is not properly planned. A common practice would be appointing whoever that the management thinks can suit the post. The main problem is when the appointed person is not physically and mentally ready to take up the responsibilities and do not have any managerial skills or knowledge for the position to run the show. This might effect the management of department and the whole organization if it is not planned efficiently. higher education institution such as UiTM with insufficient talented academic leaders is also facing the quiet crisis of succession (Rothwell, 2005). Succession planning is important for UiTM in order to sustain its standard as an outstanding university fro the bumiputeras. There is little research about succession planning program in in institute of higher education. Estepp (1998) consent that succession planing in university is different with the business community and other industry and should be carefully modified so that it would not be too authoritarian for the academy. The main focus of this study is to determine the level of readiness towards succession planning to guarantee the continuity of an excellent leadership in the higher educator institution specifically in UiTM Perak, In addition, it examines the elements of effective academic administrators which are qualification, experience, trust and training. then the study elaborates the moderating effect of organisational politics with the element of effective academics administrators on the readiness towards succession planning. the study as whole focuses on the elements of effective academic administrators for the lecturers to ensure leadership continuity and building talents from within. this cross sectional research used 133 full time lecturers from Uitm would provide relevant and useful information to the current body of knowledge and at the same time to uitm. from the study , it is hoped that the findings can provide sufficient input to the organization so that it would increase the readiness level among the lecturers of UiTM perak to not only get involved in the succession planning program but also contribute effectively and continuously to the management's excellence.
