Job Hopping is nowadays becoming a trend among the employees in Malaysia. This
research the behaviour of job-hopping among generation Y. The research has applied
Maslow Theory, which comprises five tiers of hierarchy: self-actualization, self-
esteem, belongingness and love needs, safety needs, and physiological needs to know
if the behaviour of job hoppers is related to those Maslow's theory. However, the author
had decided to take three elements that cover those five tiers which are, self-fulfilment
needs (self-actualization), psychological needs (self-esteem and belongingness and
love needs) and basic needs (safety needs and physiological needs). These research
objectives were to determine the relationship between the behaviour of job hoppers with
self-fulfilment needs, psychological needs and basic needs. The study's findings had
identified a significant correlation between all the independent variables and dependent
variables. The findings of the self-fulfilment needs, psychological needs and basic
needs with behavior of job-hopping are (r =0.637, p=0.00), (r=0.524, p=0.00) and
(r=0.502, p=0.502), respectively. The result shows that there is a significant correlation
between all the independent variables and dependent variables. Besides, the mediating
factor that had been tested in this study showed (b=0.0022, SE = 0.0039, 95% CL=-
0.0025, 0.0129.), (b=0.0017, SE = 0.108, 95% CL=-0.0139, 0.0290) and (b=0.0038, SE
= 0.0057 95% CL=. -0.0015, 0.0194) for self-fulfillment needs, psychological needs
and basic needs with behavior of job-hopping respectively. The results found a positive
relationship on type of generation mediating the relationship between factors of job-
hopping, which are self-fulfilment, psychological needs and basic needs towards the
behaviour of job-hopping among generation Y. Then, based on the findings in the
multiple regression test, it can be concluded that self-fulfilment is the most influential
factor. Last, the author also discusses the limitations and recommendations in handling
the issue of job-hopping among employees.
