Purpose: This study explores the level of public awareness towards reducing street crime program under National Key Result Area of Government Transformation Program. Social media influences and political legitimacy with level of public awareness towards reducing street crime program are examined in this study. Design/methodology/approach: The paper presents the findings of random questionnaire distribution of 275 people aged 18 and above, in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Findings: The paper suggests that level of public awareness towards reducing street crime program is low, where the respondents disagree (M=2.72 and SD=.8713) with most of the sub-programs under reducing street crime program. Social media influences and political legitimacy view of respondents is positively correlates (large effect with r= .589 and r = .669 respectively) with level of public awareness towards the reducing street crime program. Gender and race did not influence level of public awareness towards reducing street crime program where regression analysis for both moderating variables is not significance (p = >.001). Hierarchical Multiple Regression test also revealed that there is no significant in gender and race moderation towards level and public awareness. Both tests indicate p > .005 Conclusion: This study reveals that political legitimacy view is more influential than social media in determining the level of public awareness towards reducing street crime program. Therefore, proactive actions must be taken to tackle this issue.
