THE MEDIATING EFFECT OF JOB SATISFACTION ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMPLOYEE RETENTION FACTOR AND CAREER COMMITMENT


The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between employee retention factor and career commitment and job satisfaction as a mediating variable. Utilizing the survey approach, this study consisted of 330 respondent’s selected using convenient sampling technique. Employee retention has become an issue which affects the organization until today and many organizations have tried to understand the factors that contribute to employee retention among the employees. Therefore, this paper represents a review on the mediating effect of job satisfaction towards the relationship between employee retention factors and career commitment where the highlight is on the employee retention factors which are adopted and adapted from Herzberg’s Hygiene Motivational Theory and Social Exchange Theory. The results showed that the employee retention factors such as supervisor support, training and development, working environment and compensation and benefits are accepted as the contributing factors of employee retention factors. Working environment has become the main factors in retaining the employees on the career commitment. This study also reveals that job satisfaction is mediated in all the employee retention factors relationship with career commitment.
