THE ISSUES FACED BY BANGLADESHI WORKERS IN KUALA LUMPUR


The past agreement that the Malaysian government had with Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nepal in having labour workers led to the situation right now in Malaysia. There are multitudinous of foreign workers from Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nepal who are working in different sectors in Malaysia. In fact, the demand to have more Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia has increased gradually. This topic reflects current situation faced by the Malaysian government in bringing foreign workers to Malaysia. In fact, having more foreign workers especially Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia is now being questioned by the public. The number of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia has increased year by year and among these Bangladeshi workers there are Bangladeshi workers that face some issues while staying and working here in Malaysia. This study identifies and examines the issues faced by Bangladeshi workers in Kuala Lumpur. This study designed by three research questions which is in which sectors does Bangladeshi workers work in Kuala Lumpur, what are the issues faced by Bangladeshi workers in Kuala Lumpur and finally do Bangladeshi workers satisfied working in Malaysia. In this study, the literature on foreign or migrant workers exclusively on Bangladeshi workers in different countries has been reviewed. Furthermore, the issues faced by Bangladeshi workers have been analyzed to identify major gaps in the literature. This study contributed to the body of knowledge on Bangladeshi workers. This research has also provided new perceptions towards Bangladeshi workers. This study was carried out using qualitative method, by adopting in-depth interview and used content analysis. The findings from this research clearly outline the issues faced by the Bangladeshi workers and recommend few suggestions for future research in this study.
