FACTORS AFFECTING EMPLOYEE TURNOVER INTENTION AMONG GEN-Y WORKERS IN FAST-FOOD INDUSTRY


Front-line employees are the most valuable assets in the food service business since
they are the ones that provide the best service every day to enhance customer
satisfaction. One of issue related with employee in food service industry is high
turnover. It is reported that accommodation and food activities, a subsector in service
sector shows that employee turnover in 2018 and 2019 is the highest among other
sectors. In addition, generation Y contribute to the highest turnover rate to date. In the
view of the situation, there is very limited research on variables of the turnover intention
of Gen-Y workers in the Malaysian fast-food industry. The purpose of this research is
to determine the factors affecting employee turnover intention among Generation Y
workers in Malaysia, particularly located at Negeri Sembilan. This study used
quantitative approach to understand the factors affecting employee turnover intention
among Gen-Y workers in fast-food industry. In collecting the data, survey
questionnaires were used. A total of three hundred (300) questionnaires were
distributed in Negeri Sembilan. The findings shows that compensation, work
environment, job stress and person-organization fit have significant relationship
towards employee turnover intention. The findings also indicated that gender has
moderating effect on the relationship of job stress towards employee turnover intention.
