A STUDY ON RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB CHARACTERISTICS AND JOB SATISFACTION AMONG GENERATION Y AT BIOTROPHICS MALAYSIA BERHAD


Today's biggest 's workforce consists of three major generations that is Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y workforce. Hence, managing and retaining employees is becoming increasingly difficult because the biggest divide facing our society is not only gender divide, racial divide but it is the generational divide. The objective of this study is to identify the relationship between job characteristics and job satisfaction among generation Y at Biotropics Malaysia Berhad. The purpose of this study is to ascertain the level of job satisfaction among employee, to examine is there any relationship between job characteristics and job satisfaction; and also to analyze if there is any differences on job satisfaction between generation Y and non generation Y. In order to achieve these objectives, 80 questionnaires have been distributed to 45 generation Y respondents and 35 non generation Y respondents. Response rate on the survey is 100 percent. The results were analyzed through correlation, independent sample t-test and ANOVA. The study found that job satisfaction among all employees is between moderate to low and there is positive relationship between job characteristics. They study also found that no significant difference between Generation Y and non-generation Y in terms of benefit but there is significant difference in terms of reward. It is also found that generally there is significant difference in relationship between employee position and job satisfaction where in terms of benefit there is significant difference between manager level and executive position, while in terms of benefit there is significant difference between non-executive and manager and executive and manager. It is recommended that the management should strive to provide better working environment to employees regardless of which generation group they are. However, more attention needs to be addressed to younger generation as they have becoming the major group in the workplace today. Besides, they are also the successor for the leader today and will pay an important role as a decision maker for the organization.
